biography
Spanish soprano Serena Sáenz made her professional debut at only 13 years of age in the Gran Teatro del Liceu playing Aninka in the children's opera Brundibár by Hans Krása, and the following year starred as Juliet in The Little Sweep by Britten at the same theatre, where she excelled musically.

Her upcoming roles for 2017 are La Comtesse de Formoutier in “Teatre de Sarrià” and Gretel in the Opernakademie Weikersheim.

In the 2015-2016 season, she performed the leading role, Chiara, in the world premiere of Il Conte di Marsico by Balducci at Teatre de Sarrià. She was part of the “Rossini Festival in Bad Wildbad 2016” with this opera and with Le Comte Ory by Rossini. Serena also won the “International Belcanto Price 2016” during the Festival.

Her debut at “Teatro de Sarria” was with the world premiere of El Màgic Elixir playing Adina/Diana, in this new pedagogic opera by Alberto Demestres, based on Donizetti’s L'Elisir d'Amore and produced by Joan Font. In November she received a scholarship to participate in a Masterclass with Wolfram Rieger in the 20th International Lied Interpretation Course.

In the 2014-2015 season, she received the second prize in the International Singing Competition Camerata Sant Cugat. She performed as a soloist in Handel's Messiah with the orchestra Camerata Sant Cugat on a tour around Catalonia. She played again the role of Belinda of the baroque opera Dido and Aeneas at the Palau de la Música Catalana, after debuting the role in 2013. In March, she participated in the Barcelona Opera Studio 2015 playing Norina in Don Pasquale.

In June, she was the soloist in the production Amadeus 1791, a biographic show about Mozart with some of his most famous operatic scenes, plus the full Requiem. In 2012 she performed as a soloist of Fauré's Requiem at the Auditori of Barcelona, with the Chamber Choir of Palau de la Música.

She joined the Children’s Choir of Palau de la Música Catalana at age 12 and, together with the choir, received classes in music theory and singing. In 2010 she became part of Cor Jove de l’Orfeó Català with Esteve Nabona as director, where she sang for five years. Singing in the choir allowed her to work with large international directors like Harry Christophers, Pep Vila, Raphaël Pichon, Sir Eliot Gardiner and Salvador Brotons, among others; make international tours and act as a soloist in several productions.

She has participated as a soloist in the recording of two CDs for Columna Musica, "Requiems" by Fauré and Mozart (2013) and "Spring Waters" with The Four Seasons by Salvador Brotons (2010).
She has participated in Masterclasses with Dolora Zajick, Montserrat Caballé, Ana Luisa Chova, Riccardo Frizza, Teresa Berganza and Maria Bayo, among others. In addition she follows a continuous training as a dancer in several disciplines, as well as acting.

The Spanish soprano was born in 1994 in Barcelona and is currently finishing her Bachelor in Voice, with a full scholarship, at the Conservatory of the Liceu. In 2014 she won the scholarship, ‘Young Promises’ of the Ferrer-Salat Foundation and in 2015 the foundation granted her the ‘Scholarship of Excellence'.
