Daniel Janca • Percussion

Daniel Janca is a versatile percussionist and drummer engaged in an array of classical and contemporary genres.

As an engaged chamber musician he worked with some of the most prominent composers including Steve Reich, David Lang and Péter Eötvös and Helmut Lachenmann, played with superior musicians Sergei Nakariakov, Jeroen Berwaerts, Tamás Pálfalvi, Alina Pogostkina, Michael Burritt, in addition to ensembles including the Amadinda Percussion Group, Ju Percussion Group, PASIC All-Star International Percussion Ensemble, Synergy Vocals and Accord Quartet. His participations at music festivals include Kaposfest & Festival Academy Budapest headed by Kelemen Quartet and the Budapest Spring Festival with both ensemble and solo concerts.

In symphony orchestras he played under the leadership of conductors Iván Fischer in the Budapest Festival Orchestra, Zoltán Kocsis in the Hungarian National Philharmonic Orchestra and Kobayashi Ken-Ichiro, Yuri Simonov, moreover appeared alongside José Carreras, Miklós Perényi, Kristóf Baráti, Joshua Redman, Kálmán Oláh, Ian Gillan, Elena Stikhina and Michel Legrand in several other professional orchestras. He is percussionist and timpanist of the Dohnányi Orchestra Budafok since 2013. He played in concerts at venues including Carnegie Hall (New York), Liszt Academy (Budapest), Konzerthaus (Vienna), Stadtcasino (Basel), Stefaniensaal (Graz), Alte Oper (Frankfurt), Hungarian State Opera (Budapest), Villa Rufolo at Ravello Festival - Italy, Lisinski Hall (Zagreb), National Center for Performing Arts (Beijing) and the world’s premier percussion festival, the Percussive Arts Society International Convention (PASIC) in San Antonio, TX, USA.

Endorsing numerous solo concerts through 2017 and 2018 Daniel has recently been granted two prestigious scholarship awards, the Annie Fischer Scholarship and the Arts Scholarship of Budafok Town Council. Dates are updated in Events.

Daniel won 1. prize at the Italy Percussive Arts Society International Percussion Competition's Timpani Category in Fermo, Italy, 2012, and 2. prize at the Hungarian National Percussion Competition in Budapest, 2009. He was previously nominated for the Gundel Award and received several scholarships since 2011 by MOL & New Europe Foundation, Bank of China, Liszt Academy of Music (Budapest) and the Avedis Zildjian Company PASIC 2015 Scholarship.

He studied classical percussion for 15 years, most recently at the Liszt Academy of Music, Budapest, Hungary, where he graduated from the class of Zoltán Rácz (Amadinda Percussion Group) and Szabolcs Joó (Solo Timpani, Hungarian National Philharmonic), and jazz drum for 4 years. He took drum masterclasses with legendary Steve Gadd & Horacio Hernandez & John Riley at Croatia Drum Camp, percussion with New York Philharmonic's Principal Percussionist Christopher Lamb & Vadim Karpinos & She-e Wu at Northwestern University’s Percussion Symposium (Evanston, IL, USA) in addition to Dave Weckl, Gergo Borlai, Gordon Stout, Marc Damoulakis and Pedro Carneiro.
