Sofija Perovic


Sofija Perović (1985 , Belgrade) holds D.M.A. in harpsichord from Faculty of Music, University of Arts in Belgrade. She was 6 years old when she started learning piano in music school „Mokranjac" where she finished the high school. Immediately afterwards she began studying harpsichord at the Department of Early Music in „Josip Slavenski" school with prof. Svetlana Stojanovic. In less than three years, she graduated from the Department of harpsichord at the Faculty of Music in Belgrade, in the class of prof. Milos Petrovic, as an exceptional student. In 2011, she completed master's degree in harpsichord with prof. Zorica Cetkovic as one of the best students of the generation, with an average note 10/10 during her studies. She attended numerous courses and master classes in Serbia and abroad, led by world-renowned artists and pedagogues such as Jory Vinikour (France) , Jeremy Joseph (Austria), Maria Luisa Baldassari (Italy) , Steven Devine (Great Britain), Shalev Ad- El (Israel), Agnes Ratko (Hungary) , Blandine Rannou (France ) , Javier Nunez ( Spain) , Frank Cooper (USA) and many others. As the winner of the Spanish government scholarship she participated in International Festival „Manuel De Falla" in Granada, Spain (2008 , 2011) where she attended the master classes of Maggie Cole. She played at the closing concert of the festival and at the concert „Tocar con ..." in which selected participants of the course played with the eminent artists . On that occasion, Sofia Perovic performed Soler's Double concerto with Spanish harpsichordist Jordi Reguant.
In 2008, Sofija Perovic was selected to represent the Faculty of Music in the summer schol of the Austrian Baroque Academy in Gmunden. She continued her specialization at the Austrian Baroque Academy (2010, 2011), where she attended master classes held by prof. Nick Parle (Australia - UK) and prof. Aline Zylberajch-Gester (France). She regularly participates in master classes organised during the Ars vivendi clavicembalum festival and since the year 2010 the Dies organum festival, where she played at the closing concerts.
As a soloist and in chamber ensembles she has performed in numerous concerts in Serbia, Spain and Austria. She is dedicated to performing and promoting contemporary music so she has performed many world premieres written for her and her chamber music partners like Natasa Penezic (piano) and Katarina Djordjevic (violin).
Sofija Perovic is also Phd in Literature and is currently working on her third PhD thesis in opera directing at the University of Paris 8 (France). 
She  successfully debuted as stage director with Jean-Paul Sartre’s drama "No Exit" in 2012 at Sorbonne Nouvelle in Paris and as opera stage director with Monteverdi's "L'Incoronazione di Poppea" in 2014 at Opera and Theatre Madlenianum in Belgrade. 

This production (first ever Monteverdi's opera staged in Serbia) and Miss Perovic recieved only positive critics which highlighted "the modern and inovative approach to opera stage directing unknown to Serbian audience before" and was elected as the best opera production of the season 2013/2014 in Belgrade by Belgrade Edt Culture. Since then Sofija Perovic stage directed Francis Poulenc's mono opera La Voix humaine in Bitef theatre in Belgrade and was invited to present this production as part of the main program of Kotor Art Festival in Montenegro in august 2015. Once again her special approach to stage direction was awarded with the positive reviews in Serbian and Montenegrian press. In 2016 she stage directed and produced Serbian and Balkans premiere of the contemporary opera Die Weisse Rose by Udo Zimmermann allowing the audience from Serbia to see this master piece of late 20th century opera.

As part of her literary activity she participates regularly at the international conferences and meetings of philology and literature. Her master thesis  "Armide et "Tosca dans la mise en scène de Robert Carsen" has been published by Presses Académiques Francophones.
