Chanda VanderHart


Chanda VanderHart is a pianist, accompanist and vocal coach. She received her Bachelor's of Music Degree in Piano Performance (with honors) from the renowned Eastman School of Music in New York under Dr. Douglas Humpherys. Her graduate studies took place in Europe with Julius Drake, Roger Vignoles, Dr. Carolyn Hague, Antoinette VanZabner, Kirstin Okerlund, David Aronson and Claus-Christian Schuster among many others. Currently she is a scholarship student at the Univeristy for Music and Applied Arts at Vienna, writing her PhD dissertation on Lieder in 19th Century Vienna under the advisement Dr. Margarethe Saary and Dr. Susan Youens.

Chanda has performed with a vast variety of singers and instrumentalists in wonderful halls throughout Europe and North America including London's Wigmore Hall, Beurs van Berlag in Amsterdam, the Concertgebow Rotterdam, Vienna's Musikverein, Volksoper and Volkstheater. In 2008, with cellist Ronald Fuchs, Chanda recorded both Brahms sonatas for cello and piano on the historical „ Brahmsflügel" in Mürzzuschlag, Austria. In September 2010 they released a double CD of the cellos works of Robert Fuchs, one of Brahms' contemporaries and friends on a historical New York Steinway.

Most recently, Chanda released Waldgespräch, a collection of fin-de-siecle Lieder with baritone Günter Haumer . Other recordings include "Affetti del Pensier" with soprano Rusalina Mochukova and "13" with tenor Jason Brides (2011). All recordings are available on iTunes, Amazon and Spotify. Besides her work as a recording artist and accompanist, Chanda is in demand as a coach and pedagogue. She is on faculty at the Performing Center Austria, the Sankt Goar International Music Festival and Academy, at the FH Technikum Wien and directs the masterclass series "Bel Canto Bella Voce" in Vienna. Most recently, Chanda has launched – with colleague and collaborative pianist Deirdre Brenner- the concert series „Mosaique" in Vienna, a series which aims to bring together art song, chamber music and other genres of art and entertainment in a salon-style environment.

Since May, 2013 Chanda has also regularly written concert reviews for the English publication Together with the Icelandic violinist Anna Lea Stefansdottir, Chanda began the initiative "Talespin- Musical Fairy Tales for Big and Small". Besides live multi-media concert performances at locations including the U.N. headquarters in Vienna, various international schools, music and literature festivals throughout Europe and Vienna's City Hall, Talespin published a book with CD which is available in paperback, and electronically through of the Austrian tale "Hondidldo and the Apple Thief" in both English and German.
