biography
Juan Leonardo Gorrín obtained his musical as well as his vocal studies in El Sistema under the guidance of the Professors César Alejandro Carrillo, Rubén Alfonso, Lourdes Sánchez and Margot Pares Reyna, at the Choral Conducting and the Vocal Arts Academies as well as in the Simón Bolívar Musical Conservatory. He has participated in the Master Classes and the workshops given by the Maestros Gerald Wirth, Musical Director of the Vienna Boy's Choir; Elisenda Carrasco, Choral Director in Barcelona; Helmuth Rilling, director of the Bach Academy and Robert Göstl, Professor at the University of Köln in Germany.

Juan Gorrín work as Director of Niños Cantores de Venezuela, and is Assistant Director of the National Youth Chorale Simón Bolívar of Venezuela, both groups belonging to El Sistema. He was Founding Director of the Children's Choir of the Universidad Católica Andrés Bello and of the Youth Choir at the Simón Bolívar Musical Conservatory. He is one of the Directors responsible for the Coral-Symphonic concerts that are programmed in El Sistema and for the past three years has prepared the choral works for Maestro Kristoff Penderecki's regular visits to Venezuela.

He worked also as Coordinator of Choral Activities in El Sistema ́s Choir Program and as such has organized numerous Festivals, workshops as well as concerts all destined to further the academic as well as the musical growth of the choirs in El Sistema. One of the many outstanding activities is the Bancaribe Festival in which more than fifteen hundred children participated every year. As a choral singer, he has participated in many important vocal groupssuch as la Cantoría de Mérida, the Ensamble Fénix and the National Youth Chorale Simón Bolívar. In 2007 he won the first place in the University Vocal Competition on a national level. He has been an active member of the World Youth Choir, and with them has participated in important events, such as the Olympic Games at Bejiing in 2008 and the Nobel Peace Prize ceremonies in Norway in 2011.

In 2012 and 2013 he has worked intensely with the National Youth Chorale Simón Bolívar of Venezuela, touring in the United States, Germany, Colombia and Austria. He was able to conduct the Chorale at the Lincoln Center in New York, the Kennedy Center in Washington, Julio Iglesias Hall at the Inter-American Development Bank also in Washington, Alte Oper in Frankfurt, Germany, Jorge Eliecer Gaitán Hall in Bogotá, Colombia and the Mozarteum in Salzburg during the Salzburg Ferstival 2013.

As a teacher he has been invited to Puerto Rico to give workshops in the "Música 100x35", belonging to the Music Conservatory in San Juan. He is also Professor for the choral program "Orquestrando a Vida" in the city of Campos dos Goytascazes in the state of Río de Janeiro in Brasil.
