biography

After obtaining her degree in Fashion and Graphic Design, Karina Ochoalcalá got to know The System for Youth and Children’s Orchestras and Choirs of Venezuela, which made her take a life decision: to resign from her career as designer and to study music and lyric singing at the Simón Bolívar Music Conservatory -from the world-renowned musical program founded by Maestro José Antonio Abreu: El Sistema-, finishing her studies with her maestra Lucy Ferrero.

Ochoalcalá is regularly invited to sing as soloist with El Sistema Youth and Symphony Orchestras countrywide (Nueva Esparta, Monagas, San Antonio de los Altos, Falcón, Aragua, Caripito, Guárico, Lara, Chacao, Sinfónica de Juventudes Larenses de Carora, among others), being notable her appearances with the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra, Teresa Carreño Symphony Orchestra and the Simón Bolívar Symphonic Band in Venezuela and Colombia.  As soloist with Orchestra Ochoalcalá has performed with conductors Christian Vásquez, Manuel López-Gómez, David Ascanio, Jesús Morín, Felipe Izcaray, Sergio Rosales, Teresa Hernández, Antonio Mayorca, Félix Briceño, Hernán Gutiérrez, José Angel Salazar, among others. 

In Germany Karina Ochoalcalá has performed with The Saxon Wind Philharmonic and conductor Thomas Clamor.  As soloist in festivals and recitals she has performed in Venezuela, Columbien, South Korea and Germany, where Mr. Arno Preiser wrote about her concert with pianist David Ascanio in Munich, Germany: "brilliant and beautiful soprano voice... dramatic accent..." "...Singer and pianist found together the full-of-life impression of a duet..."

Karina Ochoalcalá has been invited to sing in international music festivals and special events as: Colonia Tovar International Chamber Music Festival, International Piano Festival from El Sistema, XXXIV International Piano Festival from Santander University (Columbien), International Clarinet Festival, International Woodwinds Festival, IUDEM Music Festival, celebration of the Mozart Year at the CAF (Development Bank of Latin America) among others. She was invited by the German Embassy to sing the National Anthems of Germany and Venezuela for the celebration of the Day of the German Reunification in Caracas in 2013 and 2014.  For four years in a row she has performed in Germany, singing together with her duet with pianist David Ascanio “DÚO a due” a concert tour through 9 german cities.

Besides her artistic career Ochoalcalá is teacher of Phonetics and German and English Pronunciation for singers at the University of Arts and Simón Bolívar Conservatory of Music, in Caracas.

Karina Ochoalcalá has recorded her two first CDs with iberoamerica music to be published in 2018.

Karina Ochoalcalá wurde in El Sistema (Staatliches Musikprogramm der Jugend- und Kinderorchester von Venezuela gegründet vom weltberühmten Maestro José Antonio Abreu) als Sängerin ausgebildet und gefördet. Nach ihrem Studium in Mode und Grafikdesign erhielt sie ihre musikalische Ausbildung am Simón Bolívar Musikkonservatorium.

Sie trat mit Orchestern und Ensembles des El Sistema im In- und Ausland auf. Besonders hervorzuheben sind die Auftritte mit dem Simón Bolívar Sinfonieorchester, dem Teresa Carreño Jugendorchester, dem Sinfonische Jugendblasorchester Simón Bolívar und in Deutschland mit dem Sächsische Bläserphilharmonie. Sie arbeitete mit Dirigenten wie Thomas Clamor, Christian Vásquez, Manuel López-Gómez, David Ascanio, Jesús Morín, Felipe Izcaray, Sergio Rosales, Tarcisio Barreto, Félix Briceño, José Angel Salazar und anderen.

Karina Ochoalcalá ist Duettpartnerin des Pianisten David Ascanio mit dem sie Gesang und Klavier Recitals, Kammermusik und Orchesterkonzerte aufführt. Sie sang in vielen Städten in Venezuela, Kolumbien, Südkorea und Deutschland und interpretiert von Ibero-Amerikanischen Stücken bis zu universellem Repertoire sowie spanische und zeitgenössische Musik. Karina Ochoalcalá hat zu verschiedenen nationalen und internationalen Festivals gesungen. Sie wurde von der deutschen Botschaft eingeladen, die Nationalhymnen von Deutschland und Venezuela für die Feier zum Tag der Deutschen Einheit in Caracas 2013 und 2014 zu singen.
