Prof Dr Peter Ruzicka will step down as Intendant and Managing Director of the Salzburg Easter Festival as of 30 June 2020. Peter Ruzicka’s contract was from the start intended to run for five years, and this period will be completed on the aforementioned date. The position of Intendant and Managing Director is advertised (in DIE ZEIT, the Wiener Zeitung and the Salzburger Nachrichten and on the website of the Salzburg Easter Festival).
The General Assembly of the Salzburg Easter Festival GmbH has set up a search committee to look for suitable personality as Peter Ruzicka’s successor. This committee is comprised of the following people:
Sarah Wedl-Wilson MA, Chair of the Supervisory Board of the Salzburg Easter Festival GmbH
Mag. Ingrid Tröger-Gordon, Chair of the Cultural Department of the City of Salzburg
Michael Berger-Sandhofer, President of the Association of Patrons of the Salzburg Easter Festival Prof Dr Peter Ruzicka, Intendant and Managing Director of the Salzburg Easter Festival (consulting member)
Applications will be accepted until 9 June 2018, after which hearings will be held. It is expected that a decision will be made concerning Peter Ruzicka’s successor in the course of the summer of 2018.
Peter Ruzicka has issued the following statement: ‘My role was from the start intended to be of limited duration. Fulfilling it has been a source of much pleasure to me, and I continue to take pleasure in planning and running the Salzburg Easter Festival together with Christian Thielemann. I shall be devoting all my energies to this task until the date of my departure in mid-2020’.
Christian Thielemann and the General Assembly regret Peter Ruzicka’s decision not to seek an extension to his contract, but nevertheless wish to express their understanding for his decision and would like to offer their warmest thanks for all that he has achieved.
