News from Nairobi Philharmonic

For the very first time in Kenya, the Nairobi Philharmonic Orchestra will join the dancers of Dance Centre Kenya for a full length performance of the Nutcracker ballet at the Kenyan National Theatre. They will be accompanied by a children’s choir from Ghetto Classics a community program based in Korogocho, one of Kenya’s biggest slums.

Proceeds from this unique collaboration are donated towards scholarships for underprivileged Kenyan youth to pursue their education in dance. Over 20 of the young dancers already under full scholarships at Dance Centre Kenya will be preforming in some of the leading roles at this year’s Nutcracker ballet show at the Kenya National Theatre. The musicians of Nairobi Phil will be conducted by emerging US conductor Jonathan T Rush, winner of the Respighi Prize, and joined by guests musicians from Europe and the USA who are willing to share their skills and artistry for the benefit of the performance and their Kenyan colleagues.
