Williams Theme from Schindler's List - Corinne Morris #MacedonianSessions
John Williams was asked by Steven Spielberg to write the score for his epic drama, Schindler's List, which tells the story of a German businessman who saved over a thousand Jewish refugees during the Holocaust by employing them in his factories. It is one of Williams's most successful scores, winning an Academy Award for Best Original Score. The main theme, played on the violin, was dedicated to Itzhak Perlman. This recording of a very successful transcription for cello commemorates the twentieth anniversary of the making of the film.

Tchaikovsky Nocturne Op 19 No4 - Corinne Morris #MacedonianSessions
The Nocturne op 19 N°4 was originally one of six pieces for piano which Tchaikovsky orchestrated in 1888, together with the Andante cantabile also on this recording. The piece starts with a haunting cello melody followed by a contrasting mid-section in a major key, and a short cadenza leads to the return of the first melody, this time with a beautiful counter melody on the flute.

Massenet Meditation (from Thaïs) - Corinne Morris #MacedonianSessions
The Méditation de Thaïs is an interlude for violin and orchestra from the opera Thaïs by Jules Massenet, premiered in Paris in 1894. The monk Athanaël tries to convince the beautiful courtesan Thaïs to abandon her life of pleasure and seek salvation in God. As Thaïs reflects, the Meditation is played. The beautiful melody unfolds at a slow tempo marked Andante Religioso. Little by little, the piece develops, and the marking Poco a Poco Appassionato brings it to its climax before the return of the melody.
The Meditation has been transcribed for other solo instruments, including the cello.

Saint-Saëns Allegro Appassionato op 43 - Corinne Morris #MacedonianSessions
Although first written for cello and piano by Camille Saint-Saëns, the Allegro appassionato op 43 was orchestrated by the composer in 1876. Both melodious and rhythmically challenging, this work is, in spite of its brevity, one of the composer's most popular works. Fast and passionate, it is nevertheless written in a sad mode, in true romantic tradition.

Tchaikovsky Andante Op 14 - Corinne Morris #MacedonianSessions
Based on Tchaikovsky's String Quartet N°1 op 11, the Andante cantabile was inspired by a Russian folk song; the subtle beauty and elegiac quality of the melody moved Leo Tolstoy to tears when he first heard it.
