YOU BEYOND THE ARTIST

„Everything We Do On Stage Is An Intensification Of What We Do In Our Everyday Lives”

F.M. Alexander

As artists we are aware of the need to live a balanced lifestyle. Our artistic life depends on a healthy background. Touring and performing or rehearsing test our physical and emotional limits. Our bodies are our instruments. Intense days can keep us from our healthy routine or our “me time”. Nowadays, we often have to simultaneously keep a business lifestyle and self-manage our career.

We owe it to our art, soul and audience to take good care of our lives.

Many have asked me for tips and tools to support a balanced lifestyle.

How can we keep our relationship to oneself and stay balanced in everyday life so that we can give form to our individual mission?

There are so many teachings around to help you to stay connected with your heartfelt mission. I will refer what works best for me and my clients and only methods or coaches I have worked with.

Now, first, many methods approach this topic through the traditional life pie covering seven areas of life like: relationship & friends, career, finances, health, family, hobbies & adventure and philosophical & spiritual. There are variations around. I never managed to juggle all seven balls with grace and life began to fall in place when I dropped this idea and just focused on what was important for me in the now and near future.

Since most asked for free or affordable tools and guidance-please, search the web, youtube or vimeo to find support by looking for the following:

FOCUS

No matter how tight my schedule is or how long my day will run, I usually set the alarm so that I have one hour for my “start balanced” routine in the morning. Sometimes, I have to give in to exhaustion and sleep in.

Take the time to envision and energize your goals. Contemplate what you want. Ask your heart and listen to your intuition. How you would like to feel and what you appreciate about yourself. Recognize who you are. Connect with spirit or whatever higher power you trust in.

Should your mind distract you, take a bath, journal or go for a walk.

Set the energy for the day.

Buddhist or Agnihotra ritual-guidance can be found online. Lazaris offers endless material to listen to or find Abraham Hicks free morning rampages.

FIND SOMEONE WHO WILL APPRECIATE YOU…

…if you stay true to what you want to do and be!

Honor this person if you already have her in your life. Should you feel stranded, alone or abandoned, get up and find that person. Follow your heart.

You could also start a Whats App inspiration group or connect with a tribe of people that appreciate and share your dreams.

FINANCIAL AUTHENTICITY

Even though more and more alternative systems open up, we still have to pay our bills and invest in our progress. Take responsibility for how you would like your financial background to be. Sometimes a little unblocking can do miracles and turn you into a money magnet. Julia Cameron wrote an affordable book: “Money Drunk, Money Sobber: 90 Days to Financial Freedom”.

Morgana Rae is a prosperity alchemist, helping dissolve blocks and habits. She offers tons of free insights on her website.

John Assaraf and Jack Canfield also offer tools to clarify your authentic financial path.

CREATIVITY, CAREER & HOBBIES

As artists we know that these areas are inseparable. Never stop learning, looking for inspiration, practicing and being curious. Keep stretching your creative horizon and skills. Work on new styles or treat yourself to a teacher who inspires you. No matter how busy your career is, begin to make your creative play, your priority.

To keep your motivation flowing it can also help to engage in a hobby that is very different to what you normally do. Find a hobby that takes you out of your daily blueprint and still can be easily fit into your schedule.

When it comes to the self-management of your artistic career, your hosts at Hello Stage can help you. Bettina Mehne and Bernhard Kerres just released their first book “Be Your Own Manager” and also offer online classes: www.be-your-own-manager.com.

Dianne Legro, a former successful Broadway singer, offers individual online coaching to help you with almost any concerns with insight, knowledge and intuition.

When you are artistically stuck “The Artists Way” by Julia Cameron can help. It is a journey of exercises for your artistic expression.

The Canadian artist Laura Hollick also offers SoulArt journeys to unlock your inner artist.

HEALTH

Health has always been an important factor for me as a former dancer. As I grow older my emotional well-being, my mindset and spiritual balance influence my health and body more than exercise and nutrition.

MEDITATE

Either choose one of the many online meditations or practice whatever helps you, quiet your mind for a while. Sometimes when I am too tense for anything, I just listen to nature sounds or my favorite music. You can easily find guided meditations by Eckhart Tolle or transcendental meditations online.

Abraham Hicks or Lazaris also offer meditations that can support your emotional and psychological well-being.

REST

Allow for down time. Find ways to sooth you into sleep with lavender oils, valerian, breathing, music, a hot bath… read an interesting book. Take a late walk. I am sure, you know what I mean. In my practice I often hear that artists either over sleep or do not get enough sleep. A balanced sleeping routine is essential for regeneration of the body.

NUTRITION AND EATING

Should everything else fail, just drink as much as you can (water, soup, herbal teas) and make it a habit to carry healthy snacks with you like organic protein bars, nuts or dried fruits.

Since I do not always have time to prepare my meals and am not always around healthy restaurants, I deep freeze meals I have cooked. Whenever, I have time to cook, I cook a more servings and freeze them.

Nutrition supplements are sometimes unavoidable and make sure that they really come from an organic source and are handled with love. Dr. Ehrenberger in Austria offers a range of high quality supplements and ships to Europe.

Spend time in NATURE

You ARE what you LOVE and you LOVE what you pay attention to:

Meaning: watch what you contemplate about and keep refocusing on what you want rather than what you do not want.

EXERCISE

You do not have to overdo it or torture you. Yet, your body is a versatile instrument and longs for physical expression and cleanse.
We are flooded with options. Sports types might prefer athletic movement like hiking, running, swimming, tennis or badminton. Some might prefer more artistic and expressive movement like dance, the five rhythms, essentrics or Zumba. Yoga, Pilates, the Alexander Technique, Tai Chi or Gyrotonics are healing practices through movement.

Online tutorials or hangouts are easy to find and help to experiment with finding what movement form is the best choice for you.
