Meet the Twiolins - Marie-Luise and Christoph Dingler
Playing the same instruments as your sibling might lead to some competition. Then even having the same teacher! But Marie-Luise and Christoph Dingler seemed enjoy that so much that they founded their own ensemble - The Twiolins. Their fresh programming, openess to all kinds of music, and musical story telling they not only win audiences for themselves, but also awards.
1. We all know HELLO STAGE’s favorite color! What is yours?
Christoph (CD): Blue
Marie-Luise (ML): Pink...oh my god, we are real stereotypes... (laughing)
2. What is the best advice a teacher or mentor has ever given you?
ML: Actually, it was all the technical (and musical) advice our professor Dora Bratchkova gave me during my studies. Without her I would have stopped playing the violin sooner or later. She is really the best teacher in the world!
CD: Put down your fingers simultaneously (an advice by our Prof. Bratchkova, too)
3. How has practicing changed for you over time?
ML: It gets easier. Everything. You get faster with learning new stuff, finding technical solutions and your musical way to play the pieces. I learned for myself that I learn the biggest parts overnight. So I practice the hard parts of a piece a little bit, sleep over it and voila – it works. You must learn to trust your brain.
4. How much time do you spend on the business side of your career every day?
CD: Half of the day. The business side takes five days a week, and it takes 3-4 hours a day, including all steps from filling the homepage, social media, doing video and audio stuff, doing contracts, talking about programs with promoters, talking to fans and doing promotion of course.
ML: I try to do concert promotion at least one hour a day from Tuesday to Friday (Not on Monday! On Mondays everybody hates you!) All that only when we are not on tour, of course.
5. What is the most important trait of a successful artist in today’s world?
ML: First of all you have to be an artist, a creative, artistic, dramatic, light-hearted, deep person who wants to do his art over everything in the world. Then you need the ability to sell yourself to promoters, and then the ability to switch between the ego of a salesman and the ego of an artist.
CD: Yes, the ability to stay authentic among all the money and technical stuff you have to deal with many days.
6. Coffee or tea? And your most favorite place for it?
CD: Coffee! In my kitchen, from my own coffee machine.
ML: I start the day with a good cup of Earl Grey. For a really good coffee I have to visit my brother´s.
7. The next project/concert/event you are really looking forward to?
CD/ML: Our concert trip to New Zealand and the release of our third CD „Secret Places“.
Open the windows and let a fresh breeze into the concert hall: With their “progressive classical music” The Twiolins embrace new styles and stimulate with amazingly beautiful melodies, pulsing rhythms and multidimensional spherical sound scapes.
Soundtrack-like stories, minimalism, jazzy grooves and cool avant-garde – all these elements co-exist in these new compositions and reinvigorate existing traditions.
