The Kreisler Story - Daniel Röhn
Fritz Kreisler is special to any violinist. His pieces are often used for encores or to show off the virtuosity of the artists. But violinist Daniel Röhn
took it a step further. He started a project called “The Kreisler Story”
It was not enough for Daniel Röhn to play some of Kreisler’s music but he wanted to follow the tracks of this famed virtuoso and composer Fritz Kreisler through the 1920s and 1930s in Vienna, Berlin and New York. Kreisler initiated a new way of playing violin, charming, melodious and of extreme virtuosity.
Especially interesting is that Kreisler seemed to forebode the coming time of short text, quick snaps and speed dating of our time. His pieces were mostly short, mostly under three minutes. This was also driven by the necessity of the recording technology at that time which did not allow for much longer pieces.
Before releasing The Kreisler Story as an album on Berlin Classics, Daniel Röhn developed it as a special concert format, in which he not only plays Kreisler’s music but leads the audience with anecdotes and episodes through the 1920s and 1930s. A wonderful concert experience premiered in 2015 in Berlin.
