Celebrating Brazil - with Vitor Garbelotto
When celebrating Brazil the guitar should not be missed. Vitor Garbelotto
is a Brazilian guitarist who received many prices in Brazil and Latin America. He plays a lot of music from his home country, often music which might sound different to what others might expect from Brazilian music.
Vitor’s album “Integral per Violão”
is a homage to the Brazilian composer Rademés Gnattali
. Gnattali was born into an Italian immigrant family where music was always important. He and two of his siblings were named after characters in Giuseppe Verdi’s operas. Gnattali seemed to have been a very successful pianist whose performance of Tchaikovsky’s 1st piano in Rio de Janeiro was celebrated by the press. Nevertheless, surviving as a pianist was hard. So he took up arranging, composing and conducting of mostly popular music for radio stations and record companies. His own compositions were mostly influenced by Brazilian folk music as can be heard on this recording.
