Tango Coming Up in King's Road, London!
Who doesn't enjoy a bit of tango on a Saturday night?
As many of you know, today's classical musicians are not only at home in concert halls, there are a rising number of cross-over projects happening in jazz or world music venues, hot bars in town and unexpected locations - this is a colourful side of classical music that we love following! So do drop us a line if you have something coming up that you would like us to mention!
For some Satruday night #classicalbuzz in London,
soprano Ann Liebeck wrote to us telling us about her event at the Pizza Express Jazz Club Pheasantry:
"Looking forward to performing with
Julian Rowlands on bandoneon and piano at our
Pizza Express Jazz Club Pheasantry
on the iconic Kings Road in London.
The programme is entitled
Piaf and Tango-From Paris to Buenos Aires and I
have written a new tango which we will perform
alongside some favourite songs and heart-rending tangos,
all arranged by Julian Rowlands.
It is called Hommage to Piaf and is a celebration
of the music of the city streets, the bal
-musette and the Milonga. I wrote it in Berlin
last month, another city with
a great tradition of Tango and Cafe Society.
It also has operatic influences, of course,
being a Tango Habanera a la Carmen! Julian is
a noted composer and arranger of tangos, notably
for the Olivier award-nominated show Midnight
Tango and I am thrilled he will perform it
with me on the night of April 2nd.
We will also be launching our new cd
Violetta's Last Tango."
Curious? Here is a track from the CD; here is a track from the cd:
Sus ojos se cerraron
by Carlos Gardel arr. Julian Rowlands. You can also follow Ann Liebeck on Hello Stage!
