Christopher Ward

We take a quick dive into the world of British conductor Christopher Ward's world for this week's Orange Twist!

We all know HELLO STAGE’s favorite color! What’s yours?

International Klein Blue.

What was the best advice a teacher ever gave you?

Learn from everything (as well as roll with the punches).

How has your practice changed with time?

My approach to studying scores has certainly changed. It has become more detailed, thorough and systematic with experience.

What do you think is the most important trait of a successful artist in today’s modern world?

Simply to be authentic.

How much time do you spend every day on Facebook, twitter, and which other ways do you use to promote yourself?

Probably too much, like most of my generation! But I've kept work-related posts amongst friends and family up until now, to keep them informed of what I'm up to professionally. That will change in the future.

Christopher, what are you currently working on?

Rameau's comic opera Platée.

Do you have an all-time favourite recording?

A tricky question to answer!

Perhaps Furtwängler's Cavatina from Beethoven's Quartet in B Flat Major Op. 130 for its warmth, depth, and soul.

Where do you go to when you need some instant inspiration?

On a long, lonely walk in the open, preferably on the coast and amidst nature.

...and the best place to get a coffee in Berlin is...

'Godshot' in Prenzlauer Berg.
