THE ORANGE TWIST
We open our series of 'short & sweet' artist interviews with the charming violist Mariko Hara, an exceptional
solo and chamber musician.
Mariko performs regularly as a soloist with prominent orchestras, but also is a passionate chamber musician and engages in orchestra projects such as Paavo Järvi's festival orchestra in Estonia.
Mariko's love for the viola is deeply rooted in her passion for a wide range of artistic values and creativity.
We all know HELLO STAGE's favourite colour! What's yours?
Blue .... Like the sky and ocean. It gives me a calm and balanced feeling!
What was the best advice a teacher ever gave you?
To "sing from the heart".
How has your practice changed with time?
It has reduced a lot - I try to use "more brain power" - high concentration practice is good!
What do you think is the most inportant trait of a successful artist in today's modern world?
Of course, the artistic and musical quality of an artist, but communication ability is important too...
How much time do you spend every day on Facebook, Twitter and which other ways do you use to promote yourself?
Random. But when there is a concert, I make sure that I put it on my professional facebook page and I try to post a photo as well! I still write hand written letters.
Mariko is currently in the process of moving her home base to Vienna and is looking forward to new concert opportunities and meeting musicians for collaborations.
