Formed in 2012, Trio ClariNord is a clarinet trio consisting of clarinetist Emilio Borghesan, cellist Paula Cuesta Redondo and pianist Jie Zhang.
Trio ClariNord is the first ever chamber music group with a wind player to be accepted to the prestigious European Chamber Music Academy. At ECMA sessions, Trio ClariNord has studied with renowned pedagogues Hatto Beyerle, Johannes Meissl, Avedis Kouyoumdjian, Ferenc Rados and others.
Trio ClariNord is working actively with contemporary composers to expand the repertoire for clarinet trio. The trio's first two commissions are from the leading Norwegian composers Jon Øivind Ness and Gisle Kverndokk.
Trio ClariNord performs frequently in Norway and abroad. In 2014-2015, the trio has played concerts at home in Norway, in Lithuania, in Poland, the Czech Republic, and England. On January 23, 2015, Trio ClariNord performed in Wigmore Hall in London.
In April 2015 Trio ClariNord recorded a cd of music by Beethoven, Frühling, and Ness with LAWO Classics. The cd will be released in early 2016.
The three members of Trio ClariNord are all current students or alumni of the Norwegian Academy of Music. Clarinetist Emilio Borghesan came to Norway in 2011 and since then has been a fellow with the Oslo Philharmonic. In May 2013 he was a semifinalist in the Carl Nielsen International Music Competition & Festival and in 2014 he won second prize in the Seventh Annual Anton Eberst Competition for winds in Serbia. Pianist Jie Zhang has performed with all the major Symphony Orchestras in Norway, and in 2010 she became the first foreigner to win the Princess Astrid Music Prize. Jie has studied with Leif Ove Andsnes and Håvard Gimse. Cellist Paula Cuesta Redondo has participated in the Verbier Music Festival, and she won first prize in the Alexander and Buono International String Competition and subsequently performed in Carnegie Hall. She has studied with Truls Mørk in Oslo and Thomas Demenga in Basel.
