Sinead Hayes

The 2013/14 season saw Irish conductor Sinead Hayes make her Irish debut conducting concerts with both the RTE Concert Orchestra and RTE National Symphony Orchestra in performances broadcast live on Irish national radio.

In June 2014 Sinead was one of three finalists in the Interaktion conducting workshop of the Kritisches Orchester, Berlin, whose members are drawn from the  Berlin Philharmonic, Staatskapelle Berlin, Gewandhaus Orchester and many others.

Following this in July 2014, Sinead was invited to work in a masterclass with the Brandenburgisches Staatsorchester, Germany.

In April 2014 she was awarded second prize and the orchestra vote in the London Classical Soloists (LCS) Conducting Competition. Sinead was awarded an artist bursary by Galway County Council in March 2014, enabling her to participate in the LCS competition and masterclass.

Equally at home working with choir, orchestra and in opera, from 2009 – 2013 Sinead was music director of Bury Choral Society, with whom she conducted the major choral works for choir and orchestra. She is principal conductor of the Amaretti Chamber Orchestra and was assistant music director of Stockport Youth Orchestra until July 2013.

Sinead was assistant conductor and chorusmaster for British Youth Opera's 2011 production of Le nozze di Figaro. In June 2011 she was invited to participate in the Orkney Conductor's Course, working with Martyn Brabbins, the Scottish Chamber Orchestra and London Sinfonietta.

Following an initial training as a structural engineer Sinead returned to music, graduating with a BMus (First Class Honours) in violin and composition from City University, London and completing her Masters in orchestral conducting at the Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester, where she won the Mortimer Furber Conducting Prize.

Sinead has a strong interest in contemporary music, particularly the work of Irish composers, and in March 2012 devised and conducted a sell-out concert of Irish contemporary music for Manchester Irish Festival. She has participated in masterclasses with Johannes Schlaefli, Jorma Panula and Sylvain Cambreling and has worked with the Chamber Orchestra of Luxembourg, Orquestra do Algarve, North Czech Philharmonic, Bochumer Symphoniker, Essener Philharmoniker and Ensemble and Orquestra do Cadaques.

Currently based in Berlin, she has recently had the opportunity to attend rehearsals in the Deutsche Oper, Oper Frankfurt and Rundfunk Sinfonie Orchester Berlin.

Forthcoming projects include reinvitations to the Sutton Coldfield Orchestra and Westmoreland Orchestra as well as concerts with the Amaretti Chamber Orchestra. Sinead is currently developing a performance series for 2015, highlighting the innovative work of contemporary Irish composers for conducted ensemble.
