Described as “the vocal equivalent of a Stradivarius,” by Metropolitan Opera veteran Bradley Hougham, 19 year-old bass-baritone Samuel Z. Lim is emerging as one of the most promising young American singers today.
In the 2015-16 season, Mr. Lim will make his debut with the UMKC Conservatory Opera Theatre, singing the role of Sprecher in Die Zauberflöte, under the baton of Maestro Andy Anderson. He will also be portraying the roles of Zuniga (Carmen) and Grégorio (Roméo et Juliette) in UMKC Opera's 2016 Spring Scenes Program, directed by Fenlon Lamb. In the 2014-15 season he portrayed the role of A Tourist in scenes from Offenbach's Christopher Columbus with the Cleveland Institute of Music Opera Theater, and appeared in productions of Mozart's La Clemenza di Tito and Handel's Alcina. By the invitation of classical soprano and recording artist Neva Pilgrim, Mr. Lim made his debut at the 2014 Cazenovia Counterpoint Festival in New York, singing the role of The Old Baron in the East Coast Premier of Carman Moore’s opera, The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, with the Society for New Music Opera Theater.
