Matija Fortuna conductor


Matija Fortuna was born on 6th of December 1985. He graduated Music theory studies in September 2009 at Music Academy University of Zagreb. In October 2011 orchestral conducting. First three years he studied with maestro Vjekoslav Sutej, but last two years of his studies he spent with maestro Uros Lajovic. The last two semesters of conducting studies, he spent in University of Music and performing arts in Vienna, as Erasmus exchange student, in a class of maestro Uros Lajovic. In June 2013 Matija Fortuna finished postgraduate program of conducting at University of performing arts and music in Vienna, in the class of maestro Lajovic. In last academy year he had chance to work with Bertrand de Billy and Fabio Luisi where both of them chose him to conduct at the final concert of the conducting class.

Matija attended opera conducting and vocal coaching classes at the University of Music and performing arts in Vienna with maestro Konrad Leitner and Marius Burkert.

In July 2013, as well as in June 2014 Matija was an active participant in masterclass with Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra with maestro Yuri Simonov.

In November 2014 Matija conducted opera "Der Freischütz" from Weber and rock opera Black Rider from Tom Waits at the Opera theater department of University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna.

In May 2012, he was conductor in project "Der Schauspieldirektor" from W. A. Mozart at Department for Music Theater and Opera at the University of performing arts and music in Vienna, where he led two performances.

In April 2013 Matija prepared, as a conductor and vocal coach, one opera - ballet project with Stravinsky´s music: Mavra (one act opera) and Pulcinella (ballet).

He performed it on the Studio Stage ("Neue Studiobühne") at the Opera department of University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna on 16th and 17th of April.            

Matija Fortuna attended masterclasses with Nicolas Pasquet, Yuri Simonov, Colin Metters, Clark Rundell, Mark Heron, Ganluigi Gelmeti, Ralf Weikert, Stephan Cleobury, Alun Francis and Karolos Trikolidis.

He was chief conductor of Oratorian choir of St. Mark´s church Cantores Sancti Marci in Zagreb from 2008 until 2010, as well as chief conductor of Youth tambura orchestra of High Music school "Albert Striga" in Krizevci.
