Mariko Hara, debuted at 16 as a violinist, playing Tchaikovsky's violin concerto with The Japan Philharmonic Orchestra in Toyko. Under the tutelage of Nabuko Imai and mentoring of Antoine Tamestit and Steven Issserlis, Mariko made the defining switch to the viola in 2005. 

Mariko performs regularly as a soloist with prominent orchestras, but also is a passionate chamber musician and engages in orchestra projects such as Paavo Järvi's festival orchestra in Estonia.

Mariko's love for the viola is deeply rooted in her passion for a wide range of artistic values and creativity.
