Leonid Grin has been widely hailed for his passionate approach to music and his eloquent, powerful interpretations.
Born in Ukraine, Leonid Grin studied composition and conducting under Leo Ginsburg and Kiril Kondrashin at the Dnepropetrovsk College of Music and the Moscow Conservatory.
After his immigration to the United States in 1981, Leonid Grin was chosen by Leonard Bernstein for the first Los Angeles Philharmonic Institute. Further, he received the prestigious Exxon Endowment Conductors Fellowship.
Beginning with the season 2013/14 Leonid Grin is the new Artistic Director of the Symphony Orchestra in Santiago de Chile. He held former positions as General Music Director of the Staatstheater Saarland (Germany) and Music Director of the San Jose Symphony (California).
Leonid Grin has collaborated with numerous orchestras, amongst them Berlin Radio Orchestra, Hong Kong Philharmonic, National Symphony of China, Scottish National Orchestra and Los Angeles Philharmonic; collaborations with famous soloists such as Evgeny Kissin, Yo-Yo Ma, Isaac Stern and Frederica von Stade.
Numerous recordings activities among others the complete symphonies of Finnish composer Erkki Mellartin with the Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra, which received worldwide recognition ("Record of the Year").
