Joanne Roughton-Arnold - Lyric Coloratura Soprano

soprano voice
A New Zealand lyric coloratura soprano equally at home in contemporary and standard repertoire, on the opera stage and on the concert platform, Joanne Roughton-Arnold emigrated to the UK to study and pursue a career as a violinist; she had absolutely no idea that there was anything remotely interesting down her throat!

She has recently sung the virtuosic role of Semele in Roberto David Rusconi's extraordinary new opera Dionysos, in a research & development workshop at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. She has performed principal roles with Opera Holland Park (Christine Collins Young Artist), the Chelsea Opera Group (Queen Elizabeth Hall) and Unexpected Opera. She has appeared in concert at HM Treasury, St George's Hanover Square and Handel House Museum, and in masterclass at the Wigmore Hall.

As a recitalist she is endlessly fascinated by the marriage of text and music in art song; she designs programmes that combine the familiar and the new, drawing on both standard and contemporary repertoire. She is passionate about sharing the music from her native New Zealand with a wider audience.
