Gregory Falkenstein

For the past six years, violist and attorney Gregory Falkenstein has made his home in beautiful Miami-Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where he is actively engaged as a freelancer in both professions. He is a member of Opus One, the pit orchestra for Miami City Ballet, and holds a position as Adjunct Professor of Viola and Violin at Barry University in Miami Shores.

Before moving to south Florida to pursue a J.D. at the University of Miami School of Law, Gregory spent nine years as a member of The Phoenix Symphony in Arizona. He joined the orchestra as a section player in 1999 and was later appointed Assistant Principal Viola. He also held for ten seasons a summer post as Principal Viola at the Breckenridge Music Festival in Colorado, where he was featured as a soloist, performing the Viola Concerto of Krzystof Penderecki and Mozart's Sinfonia Concertante. Prior to his tenures in these positions, he was a fellow at the New World Symphony in Miami Beach, Florida. During his three years at this world-class institution, he participated in the orchestra's Tenth Anniversary European Tour, and studied orchestral excerpts with Robert Vernon, Geraldine Walther, Roberto Diaz, Charles Pikler, and other violists from major American orchestras.

A native of York, Pennsylvania, Gregory holds degrees in Viola Performance from the Eastman School of Music and Indiana University, where his principal teachers were John Graham and Atar Arad. He has performed with the Atlanta Symphony, the Naples Philharmonic, Arizona MusicFest, and scores of regional orchestras. Also an avid chamber musician, he has performed in The Downtown Chamber Series in Phoenix, and is an alumnus of The Quartet Program and the Sarasota Music Festival.
