Eric MONTALBETTI

composer
About

Eric Montalbetti started composition at the age of 11, while studying piano and organ. Following the courses by Boulez and Piencikowski at Ircam and Collège de France in the late 1980's, he was laureate of the Sacem and Menuhin foundation competition in 1990 for his violin sonata.
He completed his studies attending the lectures of Bancquart, Méfano and Levinas at the Conservatoire de Paris, and masterclasses with Benjamin, Lindberg, Manoury and Murail.
For many years, Montalbetti, also the Artistic director of the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France from 1996 to 2014, kept his music secret.
A first orchestral work "Vaste champ temporel à vivre joyeusement" has been premiered in 2015 by Pascal Rophé and Orchestre National des Pays de la Loire, and in Japan by Yasuaki Itakura and the Tokyo Sinfonietta.
Soloists T.Papavrami, M.Coppey, FF.Guy, N.Baldeyrou, JL.Capezzali and D.Guerrier have recorded the album "Solos - A personal diary in music" now released on CD by Alpha Classics.
Hae-sun Kang and Ensemble DAI Contemporain performed a Trio in Spain in July 2015, and violinist David Grimal gave the first public performance of a Sonata for solo violin in summer 2016.
In early 2017, Eric completed two new scores : Psalterium, a commission of Vocello for Henri Demarquette (cello), choir Sequenza 9.3 and conductor Catherine Simonpietri, and
Eclair physionomique, a symphonic fantasy after Paul Klee commissioned by the Monte Carlo Festival du Printemps des Arts, will be premiered on 24 March 2018.
Eric is at present working on a new Flute concerto for Emmanuel Pahud, a commission of Orchestre de la Suisse Romande and Jonathan Nott to be premiered in Geneva on May 2019.
Eric Montalbetti's music is published by Durand (Universal Music Publishing Classical).
