About
Having completed his tenure as Music Director of the Hartford Symphony, Edward Cumming now continues as the Primrose Fuller Associate Professor of Orchestral Activities at The Hartt School.

     Tampa Tribune, Tampa
"A Florida Orchestra highlight this season was the revival of William Walton's exceptional Symphony no. 1 by resident conductor Edward Cumming, who memorized the score and crafted a strong, glowing performance. Cumming conducted without a score -- or a baton - and made clear his affinity for this music.         --- "

    "

Cumming led à la Stokowski: batonless, his hands carving and shaping the sounds freely and fluidly. He let the music speak for itself, and it did so eloquently.                               ---

    "

Cumming led his forces in a performance of [Beethoven's] Ninth that will be remembered for a long time . . . in the end, it just may have been the greatest concert in the 33-year history of the Flagstaff Festival of the Arts.

    Cumming Returns as Guest Conductor
    2014-05-10 Hartford Courant, Hartford
"Cumming conducted without a score, which gave him an unbroken visual contact withthe orchestra. This music [Dvorak's Sixth Symphony] is much more complex than its welcoming persona makes apparent.  Its textures shift quickly and decisions concerning their relationships abound. Cumming made great decisions.
The third movement had a frenetic ending that was given brilliant energy by Cummin. The finale worked into sustained celebration and the presto on the final pages of the sccire.' featured amazing string playing.... It was a brilliant and fiery close to a memorable evening of music.

"Ebullient audiences aside, Cumming apparently earned the admiration of a group even harder to impress --- the musicians themselves. "
