Bongiwe Nakani

Born in Cape Town, Bongiwe started singing at the age of 7 with the help from her older sister who used to take her along to choir rehearsals and choral competitions. She was introduced to opera music in high school where she came first place for 3 consecutive years regionally at the Tirisano Eistedford School Choir singing competition.

In 2009 she enrolled at UCT Music College under the baton of Mr Patrick Tikolo, while in UCT, Bongiwe made her mark by coming 2nd place for 4 consecutive years in the Shock Foundation singing competition, she also came 2nd and won an audience prize at Amazwi Omzantsi singing competition in 2012 founded by South African baritone Njabulo Madlala.

In 2012 she was chosen to take part in the Glimmerglass festival where she appeared in  Lost in the Stars, Armide and Aida. In 2013 she made her first debut as Rosina in Il Barbiere di Siviglia, a production by Cape Town Opera. In 2013 She was a finalist at the ATKV singing competition.

In 2014 appeared as Marchesa Malibea in Il Viaggio a Reims, a production by  Cape Town Opera and UCT Music College, She is currently busy with the role of Elizabetta in Maria Stuarda which will be performed in November later this year.
