The Alauda Quartet was formed at the Royal Academy of Music in London in 2011. An internationally diverse ensemble, the quartet hails from four different corners of Europe but shares a unifying passion for chamber music and a strong desire to explore the repertoire of the string quartet.
Selected as Park Lane Group artists for 2015 they gave their debut recitals at the Purcell Room as well as St. Martin-in-the-fields. They have also been selected as Concert Artists with Making Music for 2016.
The Quartet completed their Masters in Chamber Music at Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien Hannover where they studied with Oliver Wille of the Kuss Quartet. As well as their regular lessons, the Alauda Quartet has enjoyed lessons with the Belcea Quartet and in 2013 they studied and performed at IMS Prussia Cove with Rita Wagner. Since 2014 the Quartet has been taking part on the ProQuartet – CEMC programme in France studying with Günter Pichler with whom they also studied with at the Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena, July 2014. They have also had the great honour of performing for the late Sir Colin Davis.
During their time at the Royal Academy the quartet they were awarded Highly Commended in the Wolfe Wolfinsohn String Quartet Competition and also took part in the prestigious Davey Poznanski Quartet Scheme. Through this they received masterclasses with members of eminent string quartets such as Endellion, Emerson, Emperor, Escher and Wihan Quartets as well as regular lessons with their mentor Jon Thorne, Badke Quartet.
In 2013 the Quartet was awarded a Junior Fellowship in Chamber Music from the Royal Academy of Music and were involved in many performances at the Academy including a celebration of British composer Sir Michael Tippett. Also in 2013 they were invited to record at the Radio Nacional España as part of the Young Artist Platform Series and they have also been broadcast on Radio Vaticana. As well as their concerts in the UK the Alauda Quartet have enjoyed performing in various music festivals across Europe holding tours in Spain, Italy and Germany. In March 2014 the quartet embarked on their inaugural tour of China, performing in many cities across the country including at the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing. They are currently in the process of recording the complete string quartets of Italian composer Roffredo Caetani, which will be released on the Brilliant Classics label.
Besides their busy concert and masterclass schedule, the Quartet is also involved in several educational projects across the UK. In 2013 they were appointed Young Professional String Quartet in Residence at the ensemble-training programme Pro Corda as well as giving workshops at public schools through the Westminster Music Service.
